On Friday, November 15th, the Ida Crown freshman class went on their Freshmen Fridayton. Every year, Ida Crown organizes a Fridayton for their freshman class, in which they schedule Friday and Shabbat activities.
Students were dismissed after second period and proceeded to the cafeteria, to complete an activity that focused on the importance of growing as a group. Students, working together in groups, competed to build the tallest structure out of noodles, a marshmallow, and tape.
The Fridayton continued with a trip to Ultimate Ninjas, where students had a chance to try American Ninja Warrior obstacles or play basketball. Most students opted to play basketball. The freshmen and Rabbi Fox played City together, and other basketball-related games.
After going home to prepare for Shabbat, the freshmen returned to Ida Crown, where they davened Shabbat evening davening, and ate a Shabbat dinner of chicken soup, chicken kugel, and salad in the math/science commons.
Following dinner, the freshmen broke up into learning sessions focusing on how people should use their tests and mistakes as a growth opportunity for themselves. The students looked at sources ranging from the Torah to texts by a professional athlete. Afterward, the freshmen regrouped, and played games including Headbands and I am sitting on a chair together as an entire class. Then, senior leaders walked students home.
“The Fridayton gave me a chance to get to know some of the new kids in our grade better in a relaxed environment. I feel that it was an overall fun experience and I had a lot of fun,” Hersch Linzer, a freshman said.
Freshmen Noah Fensterheim described the event as “a short, meaningful, bonding experience in which I had the opportunity to interact with people whom I usually would not during a typical school day.”
