After an extensive renovation, Dean Rabbi Leonard Matanky is optimistic that Ida Crown’s soccer field will be ready for use soon.
Ever since Ida Crown moved from Pratt to Central Park, promises of a soccer field have been made. Our Lady Aces soccer team has been waiting patiently just under three years for their home field.
Rabbi Matanky confirmed that the soccer field will be ready for games as soon as possible: “The irrigation systems are installed, the field is seeded, and the grass is taking root,” says Rabbi Matanky. “Depending on the weather between now and the start of winter, we will know if it will be usable for this spring or if we are going to have to wait another year.”
The Lady Aces are excited to finally claim their long awaited field. “This will be the first time in Ida Crown history that the Lady Aces soccer team will play on their home turf,” three-time Lady Aces soccer player Lior Pinchot says. “We’ve waited three years for this season. Once the spray painted lines are down, our dream of playing on our own field will become a reality.”
While it is nice to have a home field for the soccer time, it is also practical in terms of the Lady Aces’ seed in their conference. Because they had no home field, last year the Lady Aces only played around ten games, a direct result from only playing away games. Having a home field would increase their chances of a higher seed in their conference.
Senior Mia Perlman is excited for the chance to make Ida Crown proud of their Lady Aces. “Although there is nothing like our bus rides to away games, the unity of our team lies in what we truly stand for— aces pride,” Perlman affirms. “By having a home field, we get to demonstrate this pride in a way of representing our school. All of our fans can come watch us play, and I think it will really enhance the game as a whole.”
